History of (the original) St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church

In 1959, a group of ladies from Yonkers, NY, contacted Bishop Vincent S. Waters regarding the building of a chapel in North Carolina.
Bishop Waters accepted a generous gift from the women (Miss Genevieve M. Carter, Miss Sue M. Gorman, Miss Marion C. D'Agostino and Miss Teresa Conlin).
The property was purchased in Raeford, NC in December of 1958, and work began immediately on the church. Reverend James Pl. Keaney, the first pastor, oversaw the project.
On May 31st, 1959, the four women were present for the dedication of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church by Bishop Vincent S. Waters.
Many of the interior furnishings were also gifts from these four women.
